Article Retraction Procedure

Article retraction is carried out based on the Association of Science Editors and Publishers (ASEP) Rules for Retraction of Articles from Publication, in accordance with the recommendations of the International Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

An article may be retracted at any stage of the publication process, without any statute of limitations.

Retraction is a mechanism for correcting published information and alerting readers that a publication contains serious flaws or erroneous data that cannot be trusted. Inaccurate data may be the result of honest error or deliberate misconduct.

Grounds for article retraction include violations of generally accepted ethical standards in the scientific community or the ethical principles of the journal.

Grounds for article retraction include:

  • Detection of incorrect plagiarism in the publication;
  • Duplication of the article in multiple publications;
  • The discovery of falsifications or fabrications of research results in the work, despite the presence of clear evidence and scientific argumentation for such facts;
  • The discovery of serious errors in the work (e.g., incorrect interpretation of results), which casts doubt on its scientific value and could negatively impact the research of other scientists;
  • The emergence of copyright claims against the article or individual parts thereof by third parties;
  • A concealed conflict of interest (or other violations of publication ethics);
  • Republication of the article without the author's consent;
  • The article has not undergone the peer-review process.

The following may initiate the retraction (retraction) procedure:

  • The author(s) of the article, who submit a written, reasoned request to the editorial board of the journal for the retraction of the article;
  • The editorial board of the journal, represented by the editor-in-chief, scientific editor, or responsible editor of the section, who prepares a reasoned presentation on the reasons for the retraction of the publication;
  • The editorial board of another scientific publication that has sent a request to the editorial board of the journal "Scientific Journal of the Far East State Technical Fisheries University";
  • Other persons who have provided evidence of violations of scientific ethics by the author(s) of the article (e.g., parties to a conflict of interest).

Retraction is carried out based on the author's own or external review, or information received by the editorial board.

The decision to retract (retract) an article is made at a meeting of the editorial board of the journal "Scientific Works of the Far Eastern Fisheries Technical University" in person and/or remotely using technical means (webcast, email, etc.) and is documented in the minutes of the meeting, which indicate the reason for the retraction (in the case of plagiarism, indicating the sources of the borrowing), as well as the date of the retraction.

The editorial board is required to inform the author (lead author in the case of joint authorship) of the retraction of the article and justify the reasons for it.

The article and its description remain on the journal's website as part of the corresponding issue, marked "RETRACTED." The same mark appears in the issue's table of contents, and the electronic version of the text bears the legend "ARTICLE RETRACTED." A notice of article retraction, stating the reasons and date of retraction, is posted in the "Retracted Articles" section of the journal's website. The article is not automatically removed from the journal's electronic version or archive; the texts of retracted articles remain in their original locations, marked accordingly. After an article has been retracted, information about it is published in the subsequent issue of the journal.

Information about retracted articles is submitted to the Scientific Publication Ethics Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences (for inclusion in the unified database of retracted articles), to the National Electronic Library (elibrary.ru) (article information and the full text remain on elibrary.ru, but are supplemented with information about the retraction. Retracted articles and their references are excluded from the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) and are not included in the calculation of indicators), and to other databases.
